Non-Spoiler Book Review
The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is a feminist, Korean retelling following Mina, a girl who sacrifices herself to the Sea God to save her brother’s lover. From there, we dive into the Spirit Realm, where Gods sleep, ghosts walk and romance stirs.
This book felt like reading a fairytale, it was lighthearted and full of whimsical magic. The Spirit Realm is a wonderful setting for this book, and it was so interesting to explore this underwater world.
This book is perfect for fans of Elizabeth Lim, the writing has the same easy flow that allows you to fly through this book. It’s accessible, easy to read, with a strong focus on characters.
I only wished that we got to spend more time with the characters and learn more about them, and not just how they dealt with the situations. I wouldn’t have minded more time being spent exploring these characters and their relationships so that I could connect with them and believe in the connections they had with each other.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and those looking to make the leap between YA contemporary and YA Fantasy will find this book a treat!
